Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed, during the Al-Makassed Association dinner, that Lebanon is going through “the most dangerous crisis since the establishment of the Lebanese state,” considering that the country “was managed for many years as if it were a spoil, not as a unifying framework for all the Lebanese.” He said, “Any actual rescue of Lebanon today is impossible without a clear return to the logic of a state that is the master of its decisions, respects its constitution, and applies its laws to everyone,” stressing the necessity of rebuilding public administration on “the foundations of efficiency, accountability, and transparency.” He added, "The state we want can only be established by one national decision, which is the decision of its constitutional institutions, and one weapon, which is the weapon of its national army, and one law that no one is above and no one remains outside of." The Prime Minister said: “Enough of the absurd adventures in the service of foreign projects and interests, the latest of which is a war that we did not choose but was imposed on us, and which led to Israel occupying 68 towns, villages and sites after we were seeking to expel it from five points.” He also warned of the continued economic and social collapse, asking: “How can any country regain its health if its youth continue to emigrate, its middle class is eroding, and its universities, hospitals, and schools struggle to survive?” He concluded by emphasizing that “there is no way out of the ordeal except by facing the whole truth,” calling for fortifying the internal front and mobilizing Arab and international support to strengthen Lebanon’s position in negotiations and international forums, stressing by saying: “Enough of the incitement and betrayal. This does not and will not intimidate us. We are steadfast in our national choices.”
